The Legal Marketing Association’s Rocky Mountain Chapter hosted a panel discussion about how law firms should think about CSR, and incorporate some of its features into their own models. The workshop was conducted in downtown Denver, at Maggiano’s Little Italy on May 8.
The panellists included Sarah Hogan, vice president of Barefoot PR; Bruce DeBoskey, lawyer and founder of The DeBoskey Company, who focuses on philanthropic advice; Joyce Witte, community investment advisor and director of the Encana Cares Foundation, Encana Oil & Gas (USA); and Amy Venturi, director of community relations & karma at Brownstein. Barefoot PR president Cori Plotkin was moderator.
The result is the employees at law firms-the attorneys and support staff who provide high quality legal services. It is a seamless match. There are several ways this ‘product’ will contribute to socially beneficial programs in terms of energy, resources and wealth.
Social responsibility: Policy and emphasis
The social responsibility of the law firm is all about making a difference within the society and profession and within a business. Even best efforts will have no effect if they spread too thinly. If your efforts are too diluted, you cannot maximize the value of your contributions, or tell your story. A law firm needs a focus on social responsibility and a strategy to decide how to invest its resources the most effectively.
